Artifacts

When an answer deserves more than a chat bubble, Azynote designs a page for it: a comparison, a report on your mail, a chart you can play with, even a small game. An artifact shows anything, and acts only when you press its Apply.

On this page

Some answers are better as a page than as text: three options side by side, what came in overnight, a chart you can filter, a calculator. An artifact is a page Azynote designs for an answer, in its own window, styled like the rest of the app.

The page can be interactive. It can sort, filter, animate and respond to your clicks and keys.

An artifact can show anything, and the page itself changes nothing. Nothing on the page reaches Azynote or the internet. To act on what you choose there, you press the artifact's Apply, or ask Azynote.

Ask for an artifact#

Ask in the chat or on the orb, in your own words:

  • "Show my sessions of this week as a dashboard"
  • "Compare these three laptops in an artifact"
  • "Go through my unread mail and show me what needs a reply"
  • "Make me a snake game"

You do not need the word. "Show it as a view" or "put that on a page" works too.

Azynote also decides on its own when an answer is better as a page, and keeps short answers as text.

The answer comes with an Artifact card. Click Open to see the artifact in its own window. The card is under the answer in the chat and on the orb's card, so you open the artifact from wherever you asked.

Close the window with ⌘W or its red button. It reopens from the card at any time.

Act on what you choose: Apply#

Ask for an artifact you can act on, and say so: "add an Apply". For example:

Show my open tasks as an artifact. For each task, give me a choice: Done, Add a note, or Keep. Add an Apply.

The artifact's window gets a bar under the page with an Apply button. Then:

  1. Make your choices on the page: Done for two tasks, a note for another, Keep for the rest.
  2. Press Apply, or ⌘↩.
  3. The orb's card opens and shows Azynote's plan in plain words, such as "Mark 2 tasks done, add a note to 1".
  4. Press Apply on the card to go ahead, or Cancel to change nothing.
  5. Azynote does what the plan says, without asking again for each change, and updates the artifact to show what was done.

The plan is the one question you answer. If chat runs on your ACP agent and you turned on Allow every tool, there is no plan to confirm: Azynote goes ahead at once.

The Apply button sits in the window, outside the page, so nothing on the page can press it for you. Only what you chose goes back to Azynote, with the request written when the artifact was made.

Any artifact can have an Apply: mail to triage, tasks to close, subjects to tag. You choose on the page, Azynote does the rest.

Ask Azynote about an artifact#

You can also ask Azynote, in the chat or with the orb over the artifact's window.

The orb sees what the artifact shows right now, including the boxes you ticked, the text you typed and the choices you made. For example:

  1. An artifact lists your unread mail, each message with a checkbox.
  2. You tick five emails.
  3. You put the orb over the window and say "draft replies to these".
  4. Azynote drafts replies to those five.

Change an artifact with the orb#

Put the orb over an artifact's window and ask: "give me more detail", "add the dates", "remove the newsletters". Azynote knows you are looking at that artifact, so "this" means the artifact. It updates the page in place, and the same window reloads with the new version. Over an artifact, the orb also offers Give me more detail as a suggestion.

When an artifact lists sessions, OnePagers or notes, their names are links. Click one and Azynote opens it in the main window. Links to websites open in your browser.

Only the links Azynote wrote into the page open. A link the page builds later does not.

Artifacts from scheduled instructions#

A scheduled instruction can answer with an artifact too: "every Monday at 9, go through my mail and present a report". Making the artifact never needs your OK.

If the instruction changes something, that goes through the usual permission questions in the orb. You answer Allow or Deny, unless you chose Don't ask again for that tool, or chat runs on your ACP agent and you turned on Allow every tool.

Keep an artifact with a session#

Ask for it, in your own words, once the artifact is the way you want it:

  1. With a session open, ask the orb "make me an artifact of this meeting's decisions".
  2. Adjust it: "add the dates", "group them by owner".
  3. Say "save it in the session".

The artifact shows in the session's files as a tile with its name. Click it to open the artifact. "This session" is the one you have open; you can also name another one, as in "save it with the Acme kickoff".

Changed the artifact again after saving? Say "save it again" and the session's copy is replaced with the new version, still one tile.

When you save a whole chat conversation as a session (Save as session), its artifacts are copied into the session the same way.

A saved artifact is a snapshot: from then on, the conversation's artifact and the session's artifact change independently. To change the session's copy, open it from its tile and ask the orb over its window.

The artifact's text also goes into the note the conversation becomes, so the session's OnePager and search know what it said.

To see a saved artifact from the session's OnePager, pin it from the media strip.

Open an HTML page you dropped#

Drop an .html file onto a session and click it in the media strip: it opens in the same window as an artifact. It is your own page, so it is not sealed: it shows exactly as its author made it, loads what it needs from the internet, and has no Apply button.

Press ⌘R in any artifact window to reload the page from disk, an artifact or a page you dropped. You keep your place on the page; what you typed into it is cleared, as in a browser.

Which AI runs it#

Artifacts work with every chat engine: Gemini, OpenAI, Local, and an external agent through ACP such as Claude.

A small local model will sometimes write a page that does not work. Ask again, and it usually does.

Why an artifact is sealed#

An artifact is made by AI, from material that may include other people's messages. So an artifact is sealed:

  • No internet. No remote images, scripts or fonts. An email's tracking pixel cannot report that you looked, and nothing on the page can send out what it shows.
  • No way into Azynote. The page cannot read your workspace or make Azynote do anything. Only the Apply button, outside the page, sends your choices, and only when you press it.
  • Only its own links. It opens only the links it was written with. Websites open in your browser, never inside the artifact's window.

Artifacts follow your theme, light or dark, as set in Azynote.

Delete an artifact#

Artifacts belong to the conversation that made them. Deleting the conversation deletes its artifacts. A copy saved in a session stays. To remove a copy from a session, delete its tile like any other file of the session.
