Azynote talks to agents over ACP (Agent Client Protocol). The agent starts once and stays running, so after the first request it answers without waking up again. It powers the chat panel, your OnePagers and the Command Panel, with Azynote's workspace tools at hand.
Your meeting transcription doesn't change: it still runs on your Mac.
Why you need an adapter#
Claude Code doesn't speak ACP by itself. A community adapter, claude-agent-acp, puts Claude Code behind ACP. It isn't an official Anthropic tool, and Azynote doesn't ship or maintain it.
Before you start#
- Claude Code installed and signed in. Run
claudein your terminal once to check. - Node.js, which the adapter needs.
node --versionin your terminal tells you if you have it.
Install the adapter#
From your terminal:
npm install -g @agentclientprotocol/claude-agent-acp
Then ask your terminal where it was installed:
which claude-agent-acp
It prints a full path, such as /opt/homebrew/bin/claude-agent-acp. Keep it for the next step. Apps opened from the Dock don't see every folder your terminal does, so the full path is the sure way for Azynote to find the adapter.
Set up Claude in Azynote#
- Open Settings > AI engines, then ACP under Providers.
- In Command, paste the full path from
which claude-agent-acp. - Check the Agent row. It shows Found on PATH when Azynote can start it.
You can also pick ACP during First Launch and paste the same path there.
Choose what Claude handles#
At the top of Settings > AI engines, set Route everything to to ACP. Chat, OnePagers, the Command Panel, session titles, subject status and the workspace profile then go to Claude.
Two rows stay elsewhere, because ACP doesn't carry them:
- Embedding, which powers search, runs on your Mac.
- Image is off. Pick Gemini or OpenAI on that row if you want image generation.
You can also leave the preset alone and set ACP on just the rows you want, such as Chat.
ACP or the CLI engine?#
Azynote can also reach Claude Code through the CLI engine, with no adapter. The difference:
- ACP keeps Claude running between requests and gives you the in-app chat panel.
- CLI starts Claude for each request and has no chat panel. You chat from your own terminal instead.
If you want to chat inside Azynote, use ACP.
When Claude asks permission#
Claude may ask before it uses a tool, such as running a command. You answer Allow or Deny in the chat. Tick Don't ask again to keep your answer for this workspace. See When an ACP agent asks permission.
What leaves your Mac#
What you ask, and the notes and transcripts Claude needs to answer, go to Claude Code and on to Anthropic under your own account. Azynote never reads or stores your Claude credentials. Audio never leaves your Mac.
If something goes wrong#
- Not found: paste the full path from
which claude-agent-acp, not just the name. - Found, but no answer in the chat: run
claudein your terminal. If it asks you to sign in, do that, then try again in Azynote. - Anything else with the adapter: it belongs to the claude-agent-acp project, so check its page and issues.
